Remote Transcription Proofreader
Description
Remote Transcription Proofreader
Ever read a transcript and feel the story hiding between the lines? For some, words are just words. For you, they’re puzzle pieces—waiting to fit perfectly. If you know that one misplaced comma can change the whole meaning, you already understand the heart of this role.
The Mission
You’ll be the last set of eyes before transcripts go out into the world. It’s your careful reading that means a CEO doesn’t miss a nuance in a board meeting, or a researcher trusts the facts as spoken. Our clients span every field: creative agencies, healthcare, education, legal, and more. Behind every transcript is a real-world outcome—diagnoses, negotiations, decisions, and sometimes even life-changing news. Your work is more than a task list; it’s the foundation of trust for every single client we serve.
How You Shape the Role
Every correction you make creates a ripple. It’s not about finding mistakes—it’s about making sure people are truly heard, word for word. That doctor’s note, that legal interview, that breakthrough idea: you’re the one ensuring it lands just right. There’s satisfaction in knowing that because of you, the story is told exactly as it should be—nothing lost, nothing added, nothing misheard.
- Catch subtle differences between what’s said and what’s intended. Context is everything.
- Demystify jargon and technical terms so that anyone reading understands the full meaning.
- Notice tone, intent, and emotion, not just grammar. When a speaker hesitates, laughs, or sighs, you help ensure the transcript accurately captures that truth.
- Stay in sync with transcriptionists by answering questions and collaborating live on cloud platforms to resolve challenging issues.
- Shape the guidelines—if you see a better way, you say it. Fresh ideas keep us ahead.
- Share your craft with new proofreaders, helping them reach your standard of excellence.
What Success Feels Like
Here, you know you’ve succeeded when a client calls a transcript “spot on” or a teammate says, “That read like I was in the room.” You’ll get honest feedback, direct and often. You’ll see your fingerprints on transcripts that go everywhere—from viral podcasts to vital court cases.
- Make quick, smart decisions without sacrificing care. We count on you for both speed and depth.
- Bring up anything odd—typos, unclear passages, names that don’t sound right. You help us avoid mistakes, not chase after them.
- Uphold confidentiality, every time. People trust us with sensitive stories, and you honor that trust.
- Influence the workflow: We lean on remote collaboration, but your ideas on streamlining or improving things matter. From Slack to Notion to our document vault, you help keep it running smoothly.
- You don’t just work alone. You mentor, troubleshoot, and raise the game for everyone around you.
Tools You’ll Use
- Editing platforms designed for live collaboration
- Task management tools—think Trello, Notion, and our custom dashboards
- Voice-to-text and advanced speech recognition technology
- Custom style guides, constantly evolving
- Secure file-sharing and version control—no lost edits or security scares
Remote teamwork is our DNA. The tech here isn’t just functional—it’s empowering, letting you focus on the work, not the logistics.
What You Bring
- Deep proofreading or transcription experience, whether in journalism, law, medicine, academia, or audio production.
- You get the digital-first world: working on your own, but plugged in with teammates across time zones.
- You make tough edits easy to understand, in the chat or with tracked changes.
- Flawless command of English, plus intuition for when "rules" need to be bent to capture a speaker’s real message.
- Bonus if you’ve worked with audio, legal/medical language, or multilingual transcripts—but it’s curiosity, care, and a drive for clarity that matter most.
- You give feedback kindly and take it constructively—always aiming higher.
Our Work Culture
We move fast, but never at the expense of quality. Deep work is respected, not interrupted. You set your hours: early, late, split shifts—it’s about your best focus, not a time clock. What matters is the standard you set, not the desk you sit at.
- 100% remote: Home, cabin, cafe—your workspace, your choice
- Flexible schedules and clear expectations
- Team spirit: We cheer wins, share challenges, and grow together
- Access to pro-level proofreading, transcription, and cloud collaboration tools
Real Stories, Real Impact
Jaya came from a background in linguistics and quickly noticed how onboarding could be more welcoming. She created guides, caught things others missed, and made every new hire feel like they belonged. Her proudest moment? Seeing her suggestions become the new standard for transcript quality. That’s the kind of ownership and impact we celebrate. Here, you don’t just do the job—you help define it.
Why This Role Matters
Here, your work preserves meaning, safeguards privacy, and lets stories shine. You earn $57,720 a year, but the bigger reward is knowing your diligence makes every transcript a reliable record for people who need it most. This is a role for individuals who love language and want their work to make a meaningful impact—where every small decision adds up to a significant difference.
Let’s Build Something Remarkable
If you want to bring your best, shape the future of transcription, and see the real-world results of your care, let’s talk. We’re looking for someone who sees the invisible impact—and wants to make it visible, one transcript at a time.
