Key Responsibilities

Ensure High Availability & Performance

• Design resilient database architectures with built-in failover, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Monitor and fine-tune the performance of large-scale instances to deliver sub-second latency to users worldwide.
• Implement autoscaling policies that adapt to traffic spikes in real-time.

Collaborate Across Teams

• Partner with engineering, DevOps, and analytics teams to align database strategies with product milestones.
• Guide developers on schema design, indexing strategy, and query optimization best practices.
• Review pull requests with a lens on data integrity and long-term scalability.

Secure Critical Data

• Apply role-based access controls and encryption-at-rest configurations tailored to each cloud provider.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and participate in compliance initiatives, such as SOC 2 and GDPR.
• Proactively detect anomalies and respond before they escalate into incidents.

Drive Automation & Observability

• Build and maintain Terraform modules or CloudFormation templates for repeatable infrastructure.
• Configure automated snapshots, retention policies, and cloud-native backup services.
• Create Grafana dashboards and alerts to surface slow queries, connection issues, and storage trends.

Our Remote Stack

We’re deeply committed to remote excellence. You’ll collaborate asynchronously and synchronously using tools like Slack, Notion, and Zoom. Our database infrastructure spans:

• Amazon RDS / Aurora (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Azure SQL Database / Cosmos DB
• Google Cloud Spanner / Firestore
• Redis (Elasticache), MongoDB Atlas, and TimescaleDB for specific use cases

Our IaC and monitoring ecosystem includes Terraform, Ansible, CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog, and custom CLI scripts.

What You Bring

You simplify complex infrastructure decisions and keep systems humming, even under stress. You think two steps ahead—not just what works now, but what scales later.

Must-Have Experience

• 5+ years managing cloud-hosted databases in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Proven record of tuning high-traffic, production-grade environments.
• Mastery of SQL, performance diagnostics, and index tuning.
• Familiarity with IaC and CI/CD workflows.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to multi-cloud setups and hybrid cloud integrations.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, query planners, or logical replication.
• Participation in infrastructure cost audits and optimization strategies.

This is a fully remote position with a globally distributed team. Work where you work best—whether that’s from home, a coworking space, or a hammock halfway around the world. The annual salary for this role is $76,412.
